Do I have to be referred by my Doctor?

No. Physiotherapists are trained to be able to assess and treat patients without a doctor’s referral. Some healthcare providers do, however, require a doctor’s referral.

What kind of treatment?

Your physiotherapist is trained in the use of a selection of techniques, including joint mobilisation, remedial exercise, taping, and soft tissue manipulation. You will also be given lifestyle advice, home exercises and information concerning your condition. The aim is to work with you to provide the optimum healing environment and avoid recurrence.

What can be treated?

Treatment can be helpful for a broad range of soft tissue injuries such as spinal pain, sciatica, muscle strains, ligament injuries, overuse injuries and sports injuries. Treatment can also help arthritis sufferers by providing advice concerning joint protection and mobilisation.
